The New England Confectionery Company inc., better known as Necco, has been fined $133,000 by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Necco was cited for 19 alleged violations of workplace health and safety standards, including failure to develop safe operating procedures, inadequate inspections, inadequate maintenance for machinery, failure to train employees in fire extinguisher usage, usage of an unsuitable motor, among other violations.
The alleged violations are connected to the release of ammonia from Necco’s Revere production plant’s refrigeration system in October of 1012. It has 15 business days from notification to respond to the citation.
